I don’t interview well, how to solve this?

October 15, 2012

The first thing to remember is that not very many people do!
So keep that in mind. You are not the only one going in nervous and with a lot of doubt. The trick is to replace those negative thoughts with positive thoughts and practice practice practice!

Some individuals suffer from lifelong social awkwardness; you might be one of them. So what exactly do you need to say in an interview to increase your chances of receiving a job offer?

Personality
Enthusiasm, presence, and passion – these qualities excite hiring managers and they will always tip the scale in someone else's favor if you don't show up with them in your interview.

Do your homework
It's not just a question of researching the organization. You need to understand your interviewer and why they are hiring. One way or another they are seeking a resource as a solution to an identified problem. Just checking out their website, report and accounts are not enough.

"What do you know about this company?" might just end your quest for employment, at least with this employer. Also check the company's LinkedIn page and Facebook page, if they have one.

Eye contact
Making eye contact with your interviewer should feel natural. There are times in conversation when you look away and think about what you are going to say. It is perfectly acceptable if your eyes look up as you are remembering an example you want to tell the interviewer.

Measure your responses
Be careful not to talk too much. You should be doing most of the talking, but don't waffle on with irrelevant detail, don't talk so much they can't get any questions in, and, whatever you do, don't start criticizing former employers or colleagues.

Be self-assured- know your worth and be confident about your contribution to the business.
